Wednesday night - breasts and Twitter thoughts

Over at Julie's, where we've just had lovely chicken breasts for dinner.

I'm borrowing her desktop while she surfs from the laptop on the sofa behind me.

And I'm thinking about Twitter, Facebook, micro-updates, and the like.

I have Twitter feeding from my FB Status updates.

I have my friends FB status updates feeding to Bloglines via RSS.

But I don't have my friends Twitter statuses feeding out to an aggregator. And if I did, I'd want to make sure that I wasn't just seeing the same ones I was already seeing from Facebook (for those people that are feeeding from FB->Twitter as I am).

There really ought to be a solution to this kind of thing. And I can think of one or two off the top of my head, but I doubt that they'll ever take off - particularly because the majority of people don't have any particular need for them. Or at least don't perceive themselves as having a need for them.

Sometimes I wonder if the web pretty much works 'well enough' for 95% of the pipulation, and so although there are lots of rough edges, it's just not worth fixing them.

2. Has Julie played OpenTTD? Much, MUCH improvement on the original gameplay and worth a look. I was really into the original game back in the day, then OpenTTD was equally addictive before I bought me a Civ IV.

hehehe! i want it to do it too, i'd like to put rss feeds onto my lj, but the only options offered to me were bloglines and a bunch o' other crap i'd not heard of, so thought i'd see if i could make bloglines feed to livejournal...

Why would you want bloglines to feed to livejournal? It gets its stuff from various rss feeds, and you can geet all of those on LJ. What is it you want to do?

Simple.

See the symbol just to the left of "View Blog"?

Right click on that and select "copy link location". (or click on it and copy the address from the address bar).

Go to www.livejournal.com/syn/ and enter that address into it. Note - this will only work if you're a paid user. So I've done it for you this once.

You can now add lesleystokes to your friends page...

Yup.

But sometimes the best new ideas for online apps come from people going "I wish I could do X..." and then messing around with others to get it working. Although TBH I think this is a minimal use for about 0.01% of users and thus not going to be the Next Big Thing.

OTOH, really must gett around to my test install of Gregarious as an aggregator, that might be able to do stuff.

Oooh. It's not bad. Very neat for some things. Being able to say "Don't include Simon Bisson's LJ" is handy. Shame it also removed the other two blogs.

If it allowed me to aggregate stuff that other people hadn't linked already, it'd be even better.

definitely getting there though.
