Not sure. Probably just that.

Other people's lives, dilemmas and views are interesting and involving, which is why I read your LJ from time to time.

However, mini-updates like this are only interesting for people who are involved in your life, since they have no context or comment.

Think about it the other way around. Would you really want to read endless updates from me saying:

0800: Sinus headache. Ugh.
1300: Mmmm. Mexican chicken.
1900: Picked up a sword.
1910: Put down a sword.
2000: Working on client's manual.


Any one of those might make a decent LJ entry if fleshed out:

"I picked up my sword today. Swung it twice - managed not to chip the wall - and put it down again. The irony is that I can only afford swords because I whore my potential sword time to make money technical authoring... and so on"

I know nothing about Andrew other than what he's posted here last month or so—I like these, and am thinking of doing it myself—short and unintrusive, but a little more character.

Many of them might make a decent entry, but I tend to do status updates for stuff I don't have time to write an entry for.

Fair enough. But if everybody starts doing it, we're going to get some bitty, long friends lists.

Is there a way of clumping the updates?

It is clumping them - there's one update per day at 5am. At least, _I_ have one update per day at 5am. You choose what time to send your updates, and that seemed like a time when I'd definitely have gone to bed :->

If LJ allowed filtering by tag this would all be a lot easier.

I do know what you mean - and I'm swithering over it at the moment. Current plan is to stick a poll up at the end of the week and see what people's feelings are. You'll get a vote then :->
