Cheers to birdofparadox for this link.

I really don't want to be sharing a planet with people who think like that. I mean, yes, it's a shame when people have abortions, but they're a necessary evil because the alternative causes much more misery and death.

All you American people, move to Edinburgh, where we're marginally more sensible!

Thankfully most of these laws never even pass, and if they do they mostly get killed in the courts. However, there are a great many deeply scary people in the US and no small number of them hold public office. I suppose it's an unfortunate consequence of being settled in part by the religious fanatics Europe didn't want.

I don't know what your experience of the US and Western Europe has been, but IME there are a heck of a lot more religious fanatics in the US and they are taken far more seriously here.

Makes you want to spit, doesn't it? Where's the requirement for any woman to be counselled on the dangers of pregnancy and birth??? (death, strokes, diabetes, incontinence (double), permanent back problems to mention but a few).

Of course, it is depressingly easy to see where these people's attitude comes from in evolutionary terms (given they seem to be assuming enough resources to raise the prospective child successfully will be available).

Doesn't make it right though.
