RTD can write dialogue and emotion perfectly well, but can't do plot or drama to save his life.

The Doctor is Tinkerbell and The Master is Ming the Merciless.

As usual for the last few episodes, lots of nice ideas, handled incredibly variably, leading to an overall sense of disappointment.

*blinks* you were disappointed? I was delighted! I laughed, I cried, I gasped. :) Wonder if poor little John Bell knew he was going to end up as a psychotic zeroid though?

I thought there was plenty of decent material and ideas there, but was disappointed that the big moments and plot beats were again dealt with in a handwavy 'magic' way. Really makes it hard to invest yourself in it if that's how things are going to be sorted out.

Yes exactly. This is my main criticism too.

At least he didn't kill the Master, that would have really annoyed me.

Kind of agree with you guys.

Lots of fantastic little bits, surrounded by Great Big Pants.

There was the odd moment here or there where I was entertained, but these just made the rubbish bits even worse. Example: I was actually quite getting into it around the point where the Master got shot but this was followed by the shot-for-shot recreation of Darth Vader's funeral which had me falling of the sofa laughing.
