Went off to traditional Monday pilates only to find that the instructor had torn a tendon in her leg. So Erin suggested we play badminton instead. An hour of leaping about the court later I was a big sweaty mess. Great fun though - and it reinforced that I really need to do more of that kind of thing.

So, (checks calendar), when I get back from Eastercon, in mid-April, I intend to start trying to do something of that ilk once a week, whether it be badminton, tennis or some other sporty, sweaty thing.

If you are okay with Squash and know of some courts, I'm definitely up for a game.

I wanted to play badminton again for YEARS!

Squiash is evil - the ball is exactly the same size as your eyeball and has a tendency to replace it:(

Urban myth :P Unless you start moving into the path of the ball and looking behind you instead of at the wall, you are fine and the only painful contact is between the ball and your backside if the other person makes a stray shot, or you and the wall if you misjudge your speed and both are avoidable with care :)

I used to play every week about 4 years back. Now my fitness is returning, seems fitting to be playing it again. Plus it's fun :D

It's a fantastic way to get rid of stress. You hit the ball as hard as you can and it doesnt bounce in a violently dangerous way either. Great fun. I have a spare racquet if needed also.

Well count me in, as a former regular squash player. It's terrific fun.

sporty sweaty things are great fun - I don't do enough myself these days. But I suppose that's cos I don't have time due to other physically demanding activities.

DIY of course ;-)

How does one organise this badmington thing. I've always wanted to do since I left school, as it was one of the few sports I enjoyed. Can you just book a court for an hour, and turn up?

£9 seems a lot! Did that include racket hire? What did you wear on your feet?

Maybe you should try and organise doubles badminton for Sunday! I'm a lot better at doubles..

Does no-one else think it's a tiny bit funny that the pilates teacher, one who trains the art of body control and flexibility, has torn a tendon?

No?

Oh.
