Technology predictions for 2007

Nokia releases the mxx2115 cell phone incorporating an MP3 player, video games, digital camera, digital camcorder, text messaging, calendar, GPS, calculator, satellite radio, e-mail, downloadable video clips, web browser, voice recorder and digital thermometer before realizing that it neglected to include the ability to make phone calls. The device still sells well, thanks primarily to a series of commercials in which sexy women say they hate guys who use their vocal cords.

and this one will be much funnier if you're over the age of 30:

Aliens from the planet Rylos descend upon the planet and reveal that they gave Nintendo the technology for the Wii so they could train and recruit young people to fight in their desperate interplanetary battle for freedom. One brave teenager volunteers to fight for them, but the war is lost when the wrist strap on his starfighter breaks.

Part 1:
Already in their press releases for their most recent smartphones they totally neglect to mention it does voice calls and (by deliberate design) don't use the word "phone", they are "mobile multimedia computers" or some such. It's been something I've been pointing out to people at work with amusement ...

Part 2:
A few years ago, at a convention, I lost one of my favourite badges, it was an official Last Starfighter badge (sob) ... for some reason I now always conflate the character who took our young hero and the Tommy Lee Jones character in Men in Black (I think probably because both have the idea of a normal car that suddenly develops rocket assisted speed!)
