Spent this afternoon playing the A Game Of Thrones board game.  None of us had played before, so it took a while to work through the rules before we started, but once we got into it it was actually pretty smooth sailing.

Some nice gameplay too - bits of it are Diplomacy-like - with the setting and uncovering of orders, units acting as support to other attacking units, and the general flexibility to stab people in the back.  But the collection of various different kinds of resources, and the bidding for position on different tracks, which then affected combat and resource usage, all gave it a rather nice complexity.  Plus, the occasional attack by Northern Barbarians which was straight out of Catan: Cities and Knights.

Overall, I'm looking forward to giving it another few goes - if nothing else I want to make up for my stupid moves in turn one and two, which left me in a terrible state for the rest of the game - not understanding the importance of fleets I didn't build any immediately, and by the time I realised they were important Hugh had grabbed my coastline, leaving me unable to produce any.

I've played it a few times and quite like it. It's never felt unfair, unlike the various Risk versions at times.

Oooh, I played the A Game of Thrones boardgame once at a friend's house, and have been yearning to play it again ever since. Unfortunately, I don't think they carry it here in Germany yet. I'll have to see about ordering one online or something, eventually.

Sounds funky! By the way, do you ever do any pencil-and-paper RPGing with your mysterious tribe of friends? The closest I've got to it not-online has been monopoly......

You know, I just read that last sentence as 'Hugh had grabbed my waistline, leaving me unable to produce any' which would have been an entirely different game altogether.
*teehee*

hope all's well and my plant's still alive....*hugs*
