Although this isn't a meme, it's more of a sigh of happiness at feeling somewhat more mainstream.

Time magazine has put out a list of The 100 best English-language books from 1923 to the present.

Which includes a fair number of books I like:

Animal Farm, Catch 22, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, Lord of the Flies, Lord of the Rings, Neuromancer, Slaughterhouse Five, Snow Crash, etc.

And Watchmen.

Which just gives me the warm fuzzies :->

Now - off to the pub quiz, where [livejournal.com profile] dalglir, [livejournal.com profile] dalglivk and [livejournal.com profile] purelyskindeep will undoubtably work with me to lose terribly.

I was pleased, surprised, and impressed to see Watchmen on the list. In contrast, I was baffled to see Snow Crash there, I've never seen why anyone finds that book anything more than trite and mildly amusing. Despite having read literally thousands of novels, I've only read 7 works on that list.

I love Snow Crash, but on the other hand I think Slaughterhouse Five is vastly over-rated. Each to their own, I guess...

(Except everyone loves Watchmen.)
