Dr Who - episode 2

I watched the second episode last night, and while I thought lots of it was good, it left with me with the same feeling as the first one - the writers are great at pulling of serious emotional bits, but utterly incapable of making the action segments serious for anyone over the age of 8. I also felt the episode could have done with twice as long so that the other characters got a bit more of a fleshing out - if we'd been introduced to each of the different alien groups and given a suggestion as to why they might have an interest in the goings-on it would have made for a better plot.

Still, Christopher Ecclestone and Billie Piper were still very good, I liked the fact that they're slowly revealing some background about The Doctor and what he's been up to, and the special effects were, again, well up to scratch (well, up to scratch for 3 years ago, which is pretty darned impressive for the BBC).

If they'd just give the stories a little space to breathe I'd be ecstatic.

I just want to know what the hell happened to Gallifrey. I mean, they're Time Lords, for gods sake, who could've beaten them?

A discussion elsewhere on LJ -- scroll down a bit suggests that this series does indeed take its continuity from the books, but references a diferent title, The Ancestor Cell.

By the way, can people please spell the actor's surname correctly? It has no final "e"!

AAAARGGGHHH! I am NEVER at home on a saturday evening so I haven't seen either episode.

Have you recorded the first 2 episodes on whatever you use for that purpose these days? A friend did them for us but his girlfriend didn't know and wiped them to make space on the drive. If you have - any chance of somehow sending copies? E me ....

Really, I got a bit bored: (***SPOILERS***)

Oh no, some slowly moving fans;

You stay here and die (clearly). I'll slowly run through the fans, even though I could just stroll through.

I'll just pause here, because it's too easy to just walk through. Yup, it's still a fan. No changes. Hmm.. what now? Walk through? Too easy, surely...

etc etc until the pretty obvious flaming death.

Not exactly a good premise for an action scene, never mind it's execution.

I will _not_ try to defend the Mario sequence, but like Dr Who, I thought bits of it worked very well :->
