New Google Interface at http://labs.google.com/googlex/ - which riffs on the Mac OS X Dock.

It actually works _better_ than the existing Google front page too - typing your search term then clicking on the 'groups' picture takes you to a search of Google Groups for your search term, whereas in the current main page it takes you to the main search page for Google Groups.

Anyway - I prefer the current 'text' interface, but that's because I can remember the word 'groups' perfectly well, whereas which icon means what takes thinking about.  Not that I tend to use the Google main page anyway - I have Firefox's search box sitting a Ctrl-K away.

woo, nif-tay. i'll be replacing my default google bookmark tonight, but i'll have to see how easily i can remember what the icons refer to. regarding the main google page default action of taking you to the search page for groups rather then actually searching google groups; (presuming you're using firefox) you could try and use the firefox greasemonkey extention to recode what happens when you click the button? not sure if it would be possible but it's something i was thinking of having a look at at some point. or you could try and replace the images with text on the new googlex page. just an idea :)

Nice. Very, very nice.

Google has a habit of using good, 'ol fashioned code and languages to do extraordinary things - google maps is all javascript - whereas other companies would go up the bloat train.

And the dock owns :P.
