Bruce Eckel (of Thinking in... series) wrote a C# book that was using all the free .NET utilities. No VS.NET needed. I downloaded a rough draft, and then they pulled the book. Let me know if you want a copy.

Geeky is installing gcc (from source) so I can compile Omega? (similar to Rogue but with an actual storyline.)
