I know the very basics of HTML and have just realised I haven't even looked at anything more advanced in _years_.

Can anyone recommend a resource for learning proper HTML for the 21st century?

Take a look at http://www.w3schools.com and get started on XHTML.

I've just gotten my site HTML 4 Transitional and my next step is to go all the way to XHTML 1.0

Alternatively, you could get a life instead :-) Wait, you have one... you are just sick. That's Ok then.

I've got O'Reilly's "HTML and XHTML", which is a good read. Although I think I learned most by writing HTML, trying to validate it as XHTML 1.0 Strict (using the w3c validator) and reading the relevant bits of the XHTML spec when it threw up errors.
