1. If a "take home" exam is the modern equivalent of an "open book" exam, I am not sure that I would call using AI "cheating". An "open book" exam is not intended to test your memory, but your ability to apply the information at your fingertips.

Yes, there is a meaningful difference between using an AI and a "traditional" search engine, but today how sure can you be that you are using a "traditional" search engine ?

How often is/was working under in-person exam conditions a good approximation to office working conditions ?
If an open book exam was a more realistic approximation to a working environment thirty years ago, is the option of using an AI not more a realistic approximation to today's working environment ?

I think you can blame the world today, or the Prof for choosing a "take home" exam and then setting something that doesn't distinguish (discriminate ?) between the students, but without seeing the actual rules I am reluctant to say that they "cheated".
