Date: 2026-02-18 05:40 pm (UTC)Ancient bacteria found frozen in cave resistant to 10 types of antibiotics
Date: 2026-02-18 05:47 pm (UTC)Uh. That is, I'm confused: Why would the ancient bacteria be resistant to more antibiotics that modern bacteria aren't? I assume that's something specific, not "antibiotics work against some things and not others and no-one looked for any against these bacteria before", but I'm not sure.
I think I found the press release, but it doesn't explain any more why that would be the case https://www.eurekalert.org/news-releases/1115156

Date: 2026-02-18 08:50 pm (UTC)On most sites I don't see many or inappropriate ads; if I do I realize that I have strayed onto click-bait sites and abandon ship (or so I tell myself).
I don't pay for access to many sites (I have no income) and accept that quality sites have costs, so need the ad income. Don't ad-blockers kill that ?
Today's experience has made me believe that the Independent site is now a click-bait site, just like the the tabloid newspaper sites (though the journalism may be considerably better). I had assumed that they would quality-control their ads, just as they do on the paper edition (I presume).
