Business Idea
Oct. 20th, 2003 06:29 pmWith the move towards more separate living arrangements, expensive housing and therefore smaller amounts of living space, there is a frequent lack of provate space for people to meet in. Should I wish to get together with a few friends for a board game, it's a problem. If I want to have more than 4 people over to watch a video, it's nigh impossible unless they're happy to be very squashed or sprawl at odd angles.
It seems to me that there's a gap in the market there. What I want, for a few hours a week, is a space with a large tv and enough comfy seating for 10 people. A mini-cinema, if you will. I don't know what the economics of the situation is, but the set-up costs of this kind of thing wouldn't be high - the main expense would be in rental of the building and repairs for any damage.
Basically (he says, thinking about it properly) we're talking about a private club, with members lounge, etc. I seem to recall that, sadly, these tend to be incredibly expensive. If I had the cash, I'd be tempted to try and put something simple into place along those lines.

I live in an apartment building but there is a little community centre with a teen room and stuff like that at the end of the block. I can probably book a room for a get together. There are also strata groups of townhouses that maintain a little hall that tenants/owners can book.

Date: 2003-10-21 01:09 am (UTC)I feel mildly guilty that we have a huge house, and we never have anyone over anyway. It is totally full of 'stuff' and unfinished, I suppose. There used to be 5 of us and now there are 2 and there isn't any more room!
