It was very bleakly pretty.

The kids were happily digging holes in the sand just behind me, apparently oblivious to their hands turning blue.

My cat jumps in the fridge when I am insufficiently vigilant and I keep waiting for him to notice it’s cold and he hasn’t yet. Then I pull him out and his little paws are freezing but he’s completely undeterred.

When we were seeing the penguins at the aquarium Sophia asked how long the penguins were happy to be out in the cold for - and it turns out they were ones native to Chile/Peru, so what they really liked in this weather was 20 minutes outdoors and then retreat to sit under a heat lamp for a while.

They have not read the penguin brand values manual!

Penguins are terrible slackers when it comes to brand values.

Very polite though. I saw a video a few days ago of one that was following a path, found two humans standing in its way, and just patiently waited for them to notice, step back, and wave it through.

That does seem to be altogether more likely. I'm very behind on my brand-values reading.

I actually bought the kids some Penguin young readers books the other day. They seemed to go down well.
