A frosty day at Abbotsford.

Our last attempt to take a day off together was interrupted by children catching norovirus. Again. So we're enjoying the chilly weather in Walter Scott's garden (the house is closed for a week being dressed for Christmas).
Original is here on instagram.

Glad to see in the comments that you're all recovered.

Beautiful photo! I went to university in eastern Scotland, and while I can't say I miss the sparse central heating in the halls of residence, I do miss the corbie step gables.

Lovely photo. I know it well from childhood, having lived in Melrose for some years when young. Sir Walter Scott was a close family friend of my ancestors too, which is a nice link.

It's well worth a visit inside - sorry you missed it the other day! The architecture inside is amazing, including in his massive library of books. But I especially enjoyed his huge collection of historical artefacts that he had gathered, that are on display to be seen. I've never seen anything quite like it. I suppose it's almost like a Renaissance or early modern "cabinet of curiosities", though a cabinet wouldn't be big enough to store it all!

It looks very fairy-tale-esque.

Sorry to hear about the Norovirus, I hope everyone is well now. I'm not sure I've been to Abbotsford.
