2) I see that various Tories and other right-wingers are denouncing this, even though it was a Tory government that initiated the handover process. That reminds me of how Republicans denounced Biden's withdrawal from Afghanistan, even though it was Trump who set it up.

I would like to see the .io domain transferred to the Chagossians so they can start getting some of the money that has been siphoned off for 25 years.

Seems more likely, to be honest, that the registry will vanish.

That would be pretty bad -- a good deal of the tech world runs off of .io. If that TLD went away (especially if it did so in a disorganized / quick fashion), it would cause a bunch of chaos.
