That was really interesting for me because I learned I don't like board games even though I think I like board games. The ones I tried: Wingspan, Azul, Code Names, Pandemic; I had a very low opinion of.

Or I only like scrabble.

I like board games. But only when I have enough brain to understand them well enough to have a strategy.

Y'know? I miss something. I miss your Dreamwidth daily Interesting Links post being a nexus of many interesting people having serious cogitation about your links. One of the best things was surprise at which link of the day blew up. I miss all that.

Me too. Still happens occasionally, but not as often.

I wish I had a bit more capacity to engage more. I'm sure that makes a difference.

What I noticed was that when your posts got spread over more platforms, that responses got spread over more platforms, which means that not all of your responders see all the responses and so don't have a response to those responses. Also, some platforms are piss poor (I'm looking at you FB) at allowing someone interested in your links to (a) see them at all, and (b) ever show them TWICE (pshaw).

I played this game in my palmy youth. It's quite interesting because of the tension between the ostensible goal of the game i.e. collecting money in one's Swiss bank account (this being of the era when banking secrecy was a Real Thing), and the fun part of the game (assassinating one's opponents, shelling the Presidential Palace etc).

Oh yes, can definitely take a while to get used to games where they're about multiple things. There have been a couple which have lots of rules for "Making great big fleets and blowing up other people's fleets" but actually most of the point-scoring is elsewhere!

Scrabble is actually one of them. There is a built-in tension between people who play to get the most interesting words they possibly can, and the ones who play for points. Though luckily, since their goals are different, people who play for words are generally inured to losing...so long as the other players admit that they have the most interesting words...
