That must be a couple of years old; technically true, but the Empire entered it's terminal phase when it was so ill-prepared for war in 1914; kept on getting sick before that, but the sun truly set when Partition happened and it got out, rather than help sort it out ~ personally I feel that's what started to happen to the US empire when it got involved in Vietnam; most frustratingly useless war of the 20th century ~ personally I feel that the great European Civil War ignited by that bullet in Sarajevo didn't really end until Saigon fell in 1975 ~ which all could have been avoided if the US had supported nationwide elections or, before that, not aided the French in trying to restore their own empire.

And now we are repeating all the same mistakes we put so much effort into ending.

It feels so useless.

I mean do we have to go through all the death and misery to get to the Federation?

Much less discussed, but the sun also doesn't set on France: Overseas France includes French Guyana (where the EU launches satellites), French Polynesia, some islands in the Caribbean, Reunion (in the Indian Ocean), a few Antarctic islands, and St. Pierre and Miquelon, off the east coast of Canada.
