Trump's trial will polarise the American electorate even further, across a divide starkly demarcated by rejection of facts and objective reality.

Racially-divided, too, but we knew that anyway.

Those polls tell us that a reality-based electorate will form a workable majority in 2024; they probably conceal the existence of substantial populations of white voters in which pro-Trump delusionism, racism, and a preference for authoritarian government, are the dominant force in culture and politics.

Authoritarian, in US politics, means 'corrupt, oligarchic, and racially-violent'.

It remains to be seen, how much of the USA will be ruled this way, in defiance of the federal government, the constitution, and the rule of law.

'All of it' is a possibility, if the existing malpractices of gerrymandering, voter suppression, and propaganda are applied at slightly higher levels than we saw in 2015.
