Date: 2022-10-21 07:20 am (UTC)But on re-reading, it seems to me that he is, in fact, 'tribally' loyal and maintained his support for many years by painful feats of moral elasticity in the face of appalling cynicism and successful politicians taking a sadistic pleasure in breaking promises...
There's something pathological there: and we all heard it in that sneering, jeering, baying triumph in the backbench mobs who drowned-out every opposition MP who spoke up for the disabled in the face of coalition cuts to the Welfare State in 2010 and 2011.
...And, everywhere he looked, he saw exploitative attitudes that are only distinguishable from corruption by the surprising fact that someone in authority legitimised the perpetrators' actions and made them into policies.
Which is to say: I don't think he has fully followed-through in his thinking when he uses the term 'Libertarian'.
Nevertheless, it's an illuminating and educational read: and I recognise the party he describes, as a natural progression of the Conservative politics I remember from the 1980's.

And they explicitly exclude service sector 'invisibles'.
