I do wonder why I should be grieving for someone not of my family who I didn't know and with whom I had absolutely zero in common but what would I know? I'm a republican.

I found grieving my own, estranged parents hard enough work!

4. When I was reviewing journal papers in the 1990s I never saw any of the authors names, affiliations or status (nor was I paid). I assumed that this particular problem of bias in peer review had been solved long ago.

From the abstract it appears that this paper is confirming that the problem still exists a generation later.

I wonder what topic and subject allowed the editors to find over three thousand experts with the experience to comment on the article.

I still do peer review stuff for various historical journals and the problem of bias very much still exists, sadly.
