7. I've been pushing for years for Jews killed in the Holocaust to also be viewed as citizens of their various nations, but is this an implication of it?

When I was thinking about whether Poland should get more reparations, I was wondering if they should get reparations for those who were both Poles and Jews, or is that double counting?

Could Germany be held responsible for tempting some Poles into being murderers? If so, who gets the reparations?

Part of the Polish argument appears to be that they would not have done such terrible things had they not been encouraged or facilitated by the Nazi occupation. Which seems a little off to me.

8) Oh, no! Scotland might have a different law than England! Sigh. Insert here a long list of all the laws that are different between them. This goes all the way back to the Act of Union.

12) Interesting what happens when a non-subscriber to the NYT tries to read this. On one browser, I can read the article but not see any of the illustrations. On another, I can see the bottom half of the main portrait (the rest is covered by a subscription notice) but not anything else.

She's clearly a transphobe and is going to push that agenda as she believes there are votes in it, which I actually doubt.

I doubt it too. All she'll manage is to make it clear that she objects to Scotland having any self-determination, and also that she's an awful bigot.

I'm not convinced there are no votes in it and I think Truss might (deliberately or otherwise) have been quite cunning here.

4. I think the plan of the bigots is to literally break those of us who "go woke".

7. In addition to the other considerations in play as discussed in the article and here, I wonder if this isn't meant to serve Putin's goal of breaking the European Union in some way.

I would think that this is all mainly a political move by Poland, trying to see what they can pressure out of the EU (by pressuring Germany), after the EU has withheld various funding due to Poland's regressive political policies. It's trying to push emotional buttons with this in order to do so. Which I find kind of repellent.

4 -- Now recently working for a big multinational that continues to double down on "woke" issues (pushing things like diversity, sustainability, abortion access for employees, etc., hard) and continues to do very well for itself, so the whole "woke -> broke" thing is more and more obviously bullshit. The right wing culture warriors are spreading this particular FUD to try and scare people, and we have to just keep calling BS on them.

5+8 -- From the outside, it looks like nothing quite so much as a secret agenda on Truss' part to piss everyone else off, finish breaking up the empire, and get all those pesky non-English people out of her hair...
