In Manchester, the only birthing pools were in the midwife-led units. Which means if there were risk factors that lead to you having consultant-led care, water births weren't an option. I don't know how widespread that is (my exp was late 2020) but it could definitely skew the numbers.

I remain a dedicated fan of the Aquatic Ape Hypothesis (well presented by Elaine Morgan in her book), despite its being ignored or outright scorned. It's one simple idea that explains far too many quirks of human design.

Same for Cambridge in 2009.

The article suggests that there were fewer births in midwife-led units, and only covers "healthy mums".

Doesn't read as if we actually know more than we did in 2009.

I lived in Surbiton in the '70s, though The Good Life wasn't actually shot there. When I told people that my parents lived in Surbiton they used to say "I thought that was a made up place".
