"up to 20V at 5A" is more than I expected, and should be enough for a laptop, but seems more than most USB-C cables I have seen can safely supply. But this might be a known issue: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB-C#Power_issues_with_cables

Yeah. I'd stick to the ones that come with the laptop, for now. Hopefully this will drive higher quality though, as more people are pushed to use them, and it becomes obvious which ones aren't up to it.

1) I don't know which of the various size USB connections USB C may be, but yeah I'm a little tired of finding that my USB cables won't fit into USB ports.

4) I think I'm missing the story behind this one. (Because I'm a foreigner and don't see all the UK news.) Context?

USB-C is symmetrical so you can invert it, which is nice

Oh, that'd be nice. That's another problem I have with other USB formats: I have to invert the plug 3 or 4 times before I find the orientation that will fit.

It's the current standard for plugging into things. It does power at much higher levels than previous versions of USB, which is why it can be a generic charging port that also supports laptops.

Oh, I grasped the theme all right. What I'm looking for is the story. What happened to this person? What was it they were speaking to the police about? What is being charged here? I have this suspicion that "I was called a pedophile just for wearing this outfit" is an oversimplification of what happened, and I say that without any suspicion of actual misbehavior on the person's part.
