I assumed this was going to be one of those "the government says the case rate is going down but reality says the case rate is going up" mysteries.

But it sounded like it was more genuinely about uncertain cause. I had assumed we were due an Omicron.2 wave (after previously hoping that had already been our most recent omicron wave). But I guess "we removed all restrictions" is also likely to lead to a new wave of infections, even though I hoped we'd somehow escaped that apparently inevitability... And I guess the other explanations are plausible too.
