In re math and real life: I like the person who worked out the fraction problem with cottage cheese-- it showed they understood the problem even if they didn't have an ideally efficient way of solving it.

I have actually used knowledge of fractions to solve recipe problems like the cottage cheese one.

Another place knowledge of arithmetic is useful: calculating tips.

Math is hard and it's taught mostly by math people -- which is to say that the theoretical is often touted rather than the practical. Even most word problems are farcical and impractical '(trains leaving various cities).' I've never had to worry about trains in various cities, but I have had to worry about being in a place at a time and for a budget.

There's weasel words around that support of conversion therapy: "where clinically indicated." Not all cases of gender dysphoria are because the subject is trans, and it's where they aren't trans that it should be clinically indicated. But you just know they wouldn't limit it to that, and the phrase they use instead of "conversion therapy," which is "to reconcile a person to their biological sex" is the giveaway here, because "reconciliation" is not the appropriate word for a non-trans person with gender dysphoria.

Wouldn't everyone in STEM and finance-related jobs use maths regularly? Or any physical job that requires measurement or calculation? At least basic arithmetic when shopping or cooking or checking ones personal finances?
