Well, I came out as trans to my family in the seventies.

They weren't conservative Christian but the result was much the same I fear.

This sport thing baffles me. I produce no more testosterone than any other woman- if you've had GC surgery, you don't.

But the link is about someone coming out as male in the 70s and his family happily accepting it, to the point where decades later they forgot he'd ever been anything else, and paying for his surgery. So I was confused by you saying "much the same, I fear".

I was agreeing with Andrew's comment that lots of them were terrible, because from people I knew at the time who had similar experiences to mine, lots of them were.

I suspect that the example was the lucky exception and I find myself wondering if 'male' might have been the thing- more acceptable in those circles.

That said, I knew trans guys who had equally awful experiences.

Seriously, the "white people and nudity" article just makes me so angry. I realize that it's just someone wrong on the internet, but I'm just so tired of articles (and politics) that equate "Protestant White-identifying descendants of English and German Protestants that came over before the nineteenth century" and "White people in general". Because lots of us are Russian, Finnish, Scandinavian, and of recent German descent, and we are just fine with naked communal bathing, had it for thousands of years and enjoy it very much.

This is not just about nudity, of course. Every time someone does this shitty mental trick whole communities of Americans are erased out of the conversation.

The majority of cultures in the world also object to public nudity. The entire Middle East, most of Asia and much of Africa, for instance. The Japanese onsen thing is a rare exception, and most other Asians find it somewhat alarming - it took me a while to get used to it myself, even with the strict separation of sexes.

That new fabric sounds extremely useful and I do hope it can be commercialised (perhaps they should talk to Uniqlo). Even if it can only come in white, it will just make everyone look as if they're from an old science fiction film.
