Do you know how much under water that flood map imples? Are talking moist or six foot under water do you think? The big area next to the docks in Leith is pretty flat and I wouldn't be surprised if a very, very heavy rainfall meant it was an inch under water.

That map... I checked my house (selfishly) and we are above the flood level, but we do get standing water after heavy rain, so I conclude it looks at river (etc) flooding.

So flooding one would be worried about.

yes, could be inches, but it's not 'just' a splashy street.

That flood map site - I played a bit with years and assumptions, and it made little difference for London, staying much the same through the century and regardless of the other settings. But thank you anyway.

No, it doesn't. But for the area I know most about (the Roding valley - that spike in the middle labelled A406) there's already a good deal of work going into improving flood resilience -
e.g.
https://consult.environment-agency.gov.uk/hnl/the-river-roding-project-information-page/
which talks about climate change as well as river flooding.
So I guess there are similar projects for other vulnerable areas.
Of course there's also this:

Yeah, that looks like it's going to be a problem for a lot of people.

Ottawa-Gatineau looks far enough inland that we're going to be (relatively) okay over the next century. But that won't account for climate-enforced migration, will it?

Actually, I think this site doesn't calculate for North American locations well. If at all...? I may be using the site incorrectly...?

The map only reflects sea level rise plus tidal effects - effectively, salt water flooding. Ottawa is over a hundred metres above sea level, and so would not be affected. Freshwater flooding from increased rainfall is another issue.

Cambridge looks startlingly worse than I expected. I can't find a combination of settings that endangers our current house, but I'm 100% sure we wouldn't be able to afford the rent on it if everyone was displaced from Chesterton.

Chesterton is low to the river, so I'd expect that's accurate, unless they build flood defences.

On the flood risk map, turning off the "exclude potentially protected areas" makes a major difference to the display. Looking at it for the Boston (Mass.) area, the "potentially protected areas" include some places that are already flooding at "king tide" high tides a few times a year.

In the delivery app article: "The most expensive order was a burrito and a taco from a Mexican restaurant, which cost £43.94 on Deliveroo - £12.29 (44%) more than ordering directly."

This burrito and taco are overpriced by any metric!

Actually yeah, I guess that's the problem :( He put yes men everywhere but none of them were any good at anything and apparently this was an actual surprise to him :(
