I was born with the intersex condition, PAIS (partial androgen insensitivity syndrome) which does interesting things to how the body develops!

I think the UK is one of the very few richer countries in the world that doesn't have some sort of formal national identification system (the US and Australia don't either, as far as I know). Most of the rest of us haven't gone full Estonia yet, though India was well on its way before COVID, but being able to prove your identity easily and conclusively for most societal purposes, including during elections, is not actually a bad thing.

If it's a useful thing then why not start off with an optional one designed with maximum security. And then people can opt in to it as they wish, at least to start with?
