The testosterone thing amuses me.

The only T I produce is via the adrenal glands same as any other woman!

For which I am duly grateful! :o)

If we play fight, he wins. For why? Because he's taller than me, bigger than me and more muscular than me.

Jeremy Hunt says Covid restrictions should stay until cases fall to 1,000 a day

*makes a face*

Melbourne, Australia set the threshold for lifting restrictions to less-than-70 new cases per day.

That's about the same level, per capita.

less than 70 new cases in a population of 5,078,193 ? [population of Melbourne, not population of Australia]

Is the rate for one urban area really comparable to that of an entire country?

One of the variations is rate of compliance with the rules, which I understand has been poor in the UK (at least partly because of poor support for the real economic cost of compliance).

A bit late to this discussion, but just wanted to note that "lifting restrictions" probably means different things in Melbourne vs UK.
At peak, Melb lockdown was: Only allowed outside of the house for one of the "four reasons" - 1 shopping trip by one person only, caring for someone, 1 hour of exercise, and work/study (but only if essential/couldn't be done from home), and all of the above restricted to within 5km of home (unless an exemption granted). Schools/childcare closed, restaurants closed, cinemas closed, weddings and funerals heavily restricted. No visits to anyone's house. Night-time curfew 8pm-6am or so.

"lifting" meant moving to: 2 hours of exercise allowed. One nominated visitor allowed for singles/single parents. Exercise up to 2 hours, still within 5km. Curfew was eased slightly - 9pm-5am. Schools, restaurants, cinemas etc were still closed. Workplaces were WFH where possible.

... have the restrictions in the UK been anywhere near that level at any point ?

"But who really has the energy to be angry — or even to advocate for change — when they’re just trying to get through the day?"

I feel this so much right now.

Just hanging on until things get easier.

The video about the Stravinsky orchestra hit sound was interesting, as well as the next one about the gated reverb drum sound.
