That South Korea study is so impressive, and absolutely confirms me in not eating indoors again any time soon.

Yeah, we have, in largely empty places, or outside, but with the new variant and this information I think I'm off of that entirely.

It's hard for me to wrap my head around what that would mean for the eye clinic. In the US of course we have a bajillion private things. (lovingly paid out of our own pocket).

Is there something similar in the UK/Scotland or is it all state run? On the one hand I do think there should be regional/distributed, but it seems a bit odd for people who live in the Capitol itself to have to go elsewhere.

I live in our state capitol and we have about 4 or 5 hospitals and each one, I'm sure has their own clinics. Would these be for a state of the art advanced optho clinic? I'm having trouble trying to understand why this is even a question or why you can't have both? (Taxes/distribution of resources, obviously).

It looks like Livingston is 58k people, and Edinburgh is half a million. Surely they're planning on opening a lot of regional centers then? Including a smaller one in Edingburg? I can't imagine forcing everyone to these small clinics in these smaller cities.

I can see a purpose for driving traffic to smaller locations to help these smaller places economically (I can't imagine Edingburgh is hurting for cash compared to a little village or whatever). And it might save on gas in terms of people not having to drive to the capitol. IDK what the distances are, that's the other thing. I drive 3 hours to my parents, it's about a 4-6 hour drive from East to West across the state. What's Scotland like?

Livingston isn't a small town, it has a population of around 60,000 people and is less than 30 minutes away from central Edinburgh. The NHS in the UK is moving away from having every treatment available in every hospital to having centres of excellence. The reason is mainly cost saving, but there is also evidence that clinical outcomes improve. That people have to travel further to receive treatment is something we are going to have to get used to as the NHS tries to deliver ever more services per pound of its budget.

There do exist private hospitals and general private healthcare - although most of them rely on the NHS for training and do some NHS treatments when the NHS is willing to pay them enough. It tends to be all elective care because the NHS is so good at emergency care, and have to pass people to the NHS if they get complicated / need ICU etc.

3. Okay, this is...worrying. Yes, we have multiple vaccines now being distributed for usage. Eventually we're going to get that coverage. Until then...*winces*

In Canada, specifically in Ontario where I live at the moment, the eye care stuff is split up somewhat. The normal stuff for getting access to glasses and contact lenses is private. You pay out of pocket for that aspect of care.

If there's a risk of something like some form of cancer, those eye exams get covered by the province out of the OHIP premiums paid on "geared to income level" basis.

It looks like while members of Christianity have declined, and people who identify as "not" have increased, "Members of non-Christian religions also have grown modestly as a share of the adult population."
