It was made so abominably difficult back in the day that I gave up trying and it eventually got to a stage where I was no longer willing to out myself. :o(

I recall a minister saying of a previous shortage something like: "there is no need to go and panic-buy things, but it might be worth stocking up in case others do so".

I'm sure that helped.

I interviewed once with a software company. They designed all their projects for 4-6 months duration, and they never asked for weekend or evening working except for a few weeks at the start and end of each project. The bloke who would have been my boss had worked every weekend for the previous two months. I don't think he can have liked his wife very much.

We've had that at work. When the representative body discussed long-working-hours culture a bunch of people got in touch to say "Don't make me stop working long hours! I'd have to see my family!"

I have worked with more than one person who deliberately worked late to ensure they got home AFTER the kids had been fed an put to bed.

I do wish some people were better at just not having kids.
