Gideon demonstrating frankly astounding head control for a baby who is
one month old on Thursday.
(Apparently being able to support their own neck happens around
three-four months. Jane remarks that Ducker heads must come on Ducker
necks.)

Date: 2020-09-29 11:47 pm (UTC)I think sometimes milestones are meant to be "if it hasn't happened by now, start watching in case of trouble," though in that case some of the milestones are pretty early for that (like walking, the milestone they usually give is 14 months: the greatest number of babies I have known have walked around 12 months, but the latest I've known babies to start walking without a motor or development problem is later than 18 months--so that milestone is confusing no matter how they cut it).
I also noticed, when my grandbaby was born and I went to read the milestone charts again, that some things that used to be on the charts-like sitting and crawling-were simply left off, which makes sense because those in particular were never as clear an indicator as all that. So many healthy children do "later" things before sitting, and so many healthy children skip crawling altogether, that it just makes sense to disregard them.
