"The second solution is to ration the commodity"

Uh-huh. All the empty toilet paper shelves in our supermarkets have signs on them limiting purchase quantities.

So how would this analogy accommodate other strategies like installing a bidet attachment and (longer-term) investing in something fancy and air-drying from Toto?

Or diet and lifestyle changes so one does not (usually) need toilet paper. Can personally confirm that is possible :-)

No sugar, dairy, grains, sweetcorn, beans, processed veg oil, alcohol, cold (deli) meats of ay sort or processed anything really.(No potatoes tomatoes, aubergines, peppers, chili). I don't eat "substitute" anything (like grain free alternative breads or veggie/vegan "meats" etc.

I DO EAT:
Meat, fish, eggs, nuts (soaked overnight with lemon juice or vinegar and salt). Lots of salad and green veg, very seldom peas, lesser amounts of carrotsn rirnips, parsnips, swede, squash etc. Some fruit (but not sweet stuff like apples, grapes, bananas, mangoes). Fry with ghee or coconut oil. Extra virgin oils on salads (never fried with!). I have been known to take almond milk (european almonds). I try to avoid cashews and peanuts, but a few are ok.
