Ours are all mixers bar the Victorian style handbasin in the bathroom........

modern plumbing allows mixer taps, but people do still have plumbing from long enough ago it had this issue (2/3 of our sinks have mixers)

I have been wondering for a while if increased levels of lead in the Roman population lead to the same sort of spike in violence that we saw with leaded petrol and that this contributed to the political instability.

The article on lead in Romon skeletons seems to be inconclusive on that point. Sadly.

My years in a UK boarding school certainly set my standard of comparison for, shall we say, exotic hygiene solutions. Also food that I would not give to a compost heap. It was very character-building and excellent preparation for a life and career in the developing world, since pretty much everything looked good after that.
