We've been fighting media transphobia for decades.

Google on 'Lucy Meadows' some time and be prepared to feel sick.

Who knew you could get away with literal murder if you are media type?

2) I like Hickey's term (whether or not he coined it) "Quitling". The obvious verbal reference there is brilliantly dismissive.

3) My eyes rolled back so far at the first example in the transphobia report that I didn't get any further. Gads.

6) I trust that anybody reading Tim Wise, especially non-Americans, will realize that "LA" in his posts means Louisiana, not Los Angeles. It's the postal abbreviation for the state. Anyway, he's right: fighting national elections in the US is about turnout, not about "appealing to the center." This was already graphically demonstrated in the Obama years, before Trump entered the picture.

I didn't coin it. I got it from Sarah Brown (former councillor for Cambridge, current senior Lib Dem). She doesn't remember if she coined it or picked it up from someone else, but it sounds like to me one of her coinages. It's an irresistible term for them, isn't it?

I still think it is too early to say if China will "fail".

It hasn't yet navigated the trifecta of demographic problems, the rise of Africa and hitting the technology frontier or dealing with popular concerns about pollution, corruption or working conditions.

It turns on what we define "fail" as and for whom.

I would suggest from the point of view of the Communist Party getting past the Middle Income Trap whilst still in political control of the country without any significant civil unrest or foreign war.

re: Tim Wise, and I've seen it in similar articles as well . . . I think his criticism is dead on for the Dems in Congress, but not really for the 2020 candidates. He seems to be ignoring that we have Dem party elections between now and then and those of us that are Dems need to choose who are going to nominate. I need a little more to go on than them just being anti-Trump, they're all anti-Trump. Their current messaging is aimed at Dem party voters. I fully expect whoever wins the nomination to re-focus their messaging after they win.
