No, it only makes my head hurt. It looks agonizingly precious.

Yeah, agonizingly precious is a good descriptor

I was really quite impressed that the dialect quiz spotted that I grew up in Staffordshire considering I use a lot of Scots dialect words and spent my childhood being accused of being a southerner because my mum comes from Bedfordshire.

The Times claims I'm not from around there, but more similar to London than anywhere else.

The NYT map thing ...

Apparently I come from Portsmouth or Norwich. Well I guess London is halfway between the two...

(I did see someone on Twitter saying that EVERYONE came from Portsmouth!)

Yeah, it seems to locate people it can't properly place in Portsmouth, but remarkably few of them. It got me down to roughly a circle radius thirty miles including the city where I live, the town I grew up in, and the city my parents grew up in, which I think is reasonably good.

I was wondering whether having lived in Edinburgh for most of my adult life might have skewed my results a bit!

The dialect quiz couldn't pin me down any closer than sort of south/midlands/Wales/north east/Scotland which doesn't surprise me as I'm of pretty mixed ancestry and it's from all those places. :o)

With Christopher Tolkien off the board, the Tolkien estate is into big-money deals these days, as evidenced by the Amazon series contract. I expect to see a lot of mining done in the Silmarillion material (The Fall of Gondolin, for example, and indeed the whole Finwë family saga from Cuiviénen onward could be milked for literally decades without running dry.

Combining two threads, the first time I heard Pippin (Billy Boyd) speak in the first Lord of the Rings Movie I exclaimed "I know where he was born!" Sure enough, a little bit of Googling revealed yes, Billy was born in Lanarkshire and specifically North Lanarkshire, a few miles from where I was born and brought up.

My results for the dialect quiz showed Cambridge, London and Brighton. As I was brought up in London, lived in Brighton for 10 years and now live in Cambridge, that seems pretty accurate.
