Patreon has backed down before in the face of user outrage, so they know they can't afford to piss their users off too much.

First time I'd noticed their main backer is Jared Kushner's brother!

And why doesn't your links-feed have a Patreon button?!

Because I earn a decent wage, and the chances of people supporting me for more than the cost of an occasional portion of chips is very slim.

And, frankly, I'd feel guilty asking my friends, who mostly earn less than me, to pay me for posting links to things I'd like them to read.
