And it is still matter of fighting them every inch of the way over human rights issues.

Many countries without marriage equality are not going to lock you up, 'just' disregard your marriage. And if you are from a 'lock 'em up' 8country then doesn't 'I got Bob to come to the US as my unmarried partner' also get you locked up? (because blerch).
The policy is obnoxious for sure, though.
