I can understand the policy reasons for going maximal on banning plastic - make sure that people understand that plastic is bad, and the government is serious - but what do they expect people to replace single-use plastic bottles with? Glass bottles? Given how we're already running out of sand, unless there's a robust recycling infrastructure for glass bottles in place already, that might end up counter-productive. Not to mention that glass is much heavier than plastic.
