I feel like the onion want to have a repeating article, "this would all be much simpler if people just agreed a single standard everyone would share" :)

There is a Canadian word "deke" which means to fake out someone and get past them. It's named for a hockey player who could consistently deke-out (often used in the deke-out form) opposing players and get past them with the puck.

It makes Europe's efforts to grapple with skepticism interesting. :)
