This meant that there were more varieties of sporting activity and the popular sports had several teams and this allowed more people to find a sport and a level that suited them.

Date: 2018-03-20 02:13 pm (UTC)What's more, football (soccer) was one of the least objectionable sports. Of course I never got the ball, but I didn't want it. At least I could run around outside for a while and stay out of everyone else's way. Far worse was baseball, even in the milder version we played called softball, and I think this would apply to cricket as well. Whether batting or fielding, there you had to deal with a ball, which was coming at you at great speed. Not only could I neither catch nor hit, every instinct was telling me GET OUT OF ITS WAY.
You're lucky if you didn't have to play basketball, which is like indoor football on a much smaller court and with consequently far more sweaty bumping up against the other players, or American football, which is armored rugby, an insane sport that should never have been invented.
