The conclusion of the sofa story

Thank you to people for suggestions about where to get rid of the sofas. I tried a few of the charities, who all turned them down because they have cat scratches (which seemed odd to me - surely there are more people in desperate need of a sofa than there are free sofas. But maybe not) - and ended up putting them on Freegle (A British breakaway group from Freecycle), and someone who worked with autistic people grabbed them near instantly for a client. The came around two days later, and I helped them strap one of them to the roof of their van, and stuff the other one inside. I'm glad they've gone to someone who will appreciate them.

Speaking of which, here is their replacement, which is huge. It felt overwhelming at first, but having something big enough that Jane (who is six feet tall) can lie down comfortably on one bit of it, with Jim and I comfortably taking up space on the other arm of it, is marvellous.

It came in three pieces (plus the recliner, plus the foot rest/box), and I was a bit nervous about them getting it all in - but once they removed the feet it fitted through the door just fine.

Most charities collect furniture to sell rather than to provide directly to people, I think?

They do. But I couldn't find *any* that gave furniture directly.

We found this issue when we were unloading things before moving. I think charities have forgotten what they started out trying to do- help people with less cash to find things they need.

Interestingly, we have found folk in the Midlands a lot less fussy than those in the southeast and more willing to tidy little blemishes up to sell on.

Also (edit) if not for the seams crossing the cushions on yours we could actually swap pieces, the color is so close.

I do really like the colour. And the texture. It's got a lot nicer look to it than most leather.

I like that yours has the mid-cross seams on the cushions and backs (not sure about on the recliner cushion, but I can see it on the couches) which should save your leather from the one problem ours has had - the lack of similar stitching has made it so the leather has sort of...stretched out over the years. It's not as tight now as it should be.
