3. Recipe enjoyable to read, but when cooking something of a kind I haven't done before, I'd prefer the security of a few hard numbers, because it's hard to make by-the-eye judgments without experience.
4. Chinese view fascinating. Few successful people in the West think luck had anything to do with their success; I'm surprised when any do. I'm appalled that there's a class at Stanford Business teaching how to use logos and slogans to motivate employees. As a former employee, I can testify there's no greater scorn than for bosses who think logos and slogans can motivate us, especially when used as a less expensive substitute for improving wages, benefits, working conditions, etc.
