I don't think the pedantry article really covers it.

When I was at school, teachers (and sometimes classmates too, usually girls) would sometimes fix my collar for me because it was turned in on one or both sides. I didn't care about how it was and paid no attention to it, and someone would just come up to me and say, 'Oh, I'll fix your collar for you'. I don't think they were grumpy or curmudgeonly, or expressing superiority. They just saw my collar was wonky and to them that was a mistake, and they fixed it.

When I used to work a lot on wikis, I'd correct spelling and grammar and not mention it. If anything, I would hope other writers would pick up on the fix, rather than have to explicitly point it out to them in a comment.

I see it as much more akin to seeing a piece of litter on the floor and putting it in the bin.
