With regards to music devices:

I use a 64Gb iPhone for music. I use 'Hey Siri' functionality to control music in the car (much hilarity on the school run with my 7 and 9yo boys trying to fool the voice imprint Siri has of my voice). If I'm doing DIY and my hands are full or the phone is a safe distance and/or streaming via BT or cable to Hifi, I'll often use Apple Watch music controls or fall back on Apple Watch Siri for more complex instructions.

The range of the Apple Watch is surprisingly good, often working well from opposite end of the house.
