The Arctic-crossing cable is all about speeding up trading.

Bringing fast internet to remote communities is pretty much a fig leaf on the real money, which is in faster trading times. (For those who can pay for them.)

Arctic Fibre's FAQ here has some good unintentional comedy, such as:
What experience have you had with cables in places such as Igloolik?
Properly installed cable should last for at least 30 years.
