Things that are hilarious, but not actually that important: A politician doing something embarassing by putting his penis in a dead pig*.

Things that are not hilarious, but are actually important: A major political backer expecting that they'd get a senior role in the government if they donated £8m to the party, and then releasing embarassing university activities when they didn't get it**. What other events are being held over politicians heads? And what are people getting out of it?

*Seriously. Feel free to wrap bacon around your penis any time you like. I really don't care. Except for it being funny. It's far more offensive that he also burned £50 in-front of a homeless person to get into the Bullingdon Club.
**On which note - if David Cameron _was_ being blackmailed over this, and didn't give Lord Ashcroft a role in the cabinet despite that, then I have a fair bit of respect for that.

If he _were_ being blackmailed then there'd be a response by now. He's a PR man. He doesn't take a shit without a press release ready to go.

If Ashcroft had actually presented him with this specific threat, he's not stupid enough to think that he can just bluster his way through it the way he does with every single PMQs. What he /is/, is stupid enough to a) do it in the first place and b) subsequently think that a career in high-profile politics was a good idea.
